MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the Society shall be open to persons and bodies interested in numismatics.  There will be the following categories of members of the Society –
            (a)        Patrons
            (b)       Honorary Fellows
            (c)        Honorary Members
            (d)       Ordinary Members
            (e)        Life Members 
            (f)        Institutional Members
The membership as Patrons, Honorary Fellows, and Honorary Members is subject to the appointment by the Executive Council of the society. These are the prestigious membership offered to eminent personalities for outstanding contributions embodied in major publications of abiding value in the field of Indian numismatics.

Life and Ordinary Membership

The Society established a small museum in a large room/hall. In 1953, Smt. Ram Dulari Dubey, the daughter of Sri Chandrika Prasad Dubey, donated a small collection of gold and silver coins of her father, to the Society. The list of the coins is published in JNSI XXII. P.L. Gupta also donated original and plaster-cast coins to the museum. The Museum of NSI possesses more than 600 coins of different metals.  A list of Gold Coins has been published recently in the JNSI. The information related to its provenance etc. is not well documented.  Original metal coins, paper currency, and cast coins are displayed in the cabinet of the museum. The museum needs to be reorganized. The present office bearers have been trying to procure a grant from the Central Government to maintain a good museum.

Institutional Membership

Institutions like universities, colleges, institutes, museums, research societies, libraries, and other academic institutions shall be eligible to become Institutional Members of the Society. Application for admission to Institutional Membership shall be made through the representative of the Institution in the form prescribed by the Executive Council. The General Secretary may accept the application after scrutiny and enroll the applicant as an Institutional Member on receipt of the annual membership fee. The annual membership fee for Institutional Members is ……..foreigner …. shall be determined from time to time by the General Body of the Society on the recommendation of the Executive Council.

Every Institutional Member shall be entitled to send one duly accredited representative as a delegate to the Annual Conference of the Society. He/She will enjoy the same privileges as an Ordinary Member in voting and participating in the proceedings of the General Meeting subject to rules prescribed from time to time. He/She will not, however, be eligible to be elected as an office-bearer or a member of the Executive Council of the Society.

Membership Benefit

The members will be given the following benefits:

  1. Participate in the meetings, conferences, and seminars organized by the Society and submit papers for the same,
  2. Elect the members of the Executive Council and other office bearers as provided in the Constitution,
  3. Receive publications of the Society at such concessional rate as may be fixed by the Executive Council,
  4. Receive the Journal of the Society free of cost on the payment of postage if not personally,
  5. Consult books from Society’s Library according to the rules to be framed by the Executive Council for the purpose,
  6. Use the Museum and Laboratory of the Society according to rules to be framed by the Executive Council for the purpose and
  7. Hold an office and become a member of the Executive Council.

Termination of Membership

            A Patron, an Honorary Fellow, or an Honorary Member may sever his/her connection with the Society by giving a notice in writing to the General Secretary. An Ordinary Member, or Institutional Member may also do so by giving a notice in writing to the General Secretary and after paying all dues.
           A member in arrears in the payment of his/her annual membership fee for one year shall cease to be entitled to receive the Journal free and to enjoy the privileges of membership.
            The name of a member in arrears for two years in payment of his annual membership fee shall be removed from the list of members.
            A member may seek re-admission in writing on payment of a fee to be determined by the Executive Council, along with the usual annual membership fee for the year and the arrears, if any.             A re-admitted Ordinary Member shall have no right to vote and contest in the election or hold an office in the Society before he/she completes three years of membership after his/her re-admission.
